Here is a little bit about Luce’s (Marie-Luce) background:

Marie-Luce Van Asten graduated from Belgium as an Art teacher in 1983. When living in Belgium, her Art focus was in printmaking, quilting and sewing.
When she arrived in the US in 2001, she taught French at the Atlanta International School and retired in 2016. As a hobby, Luce joined the Chastain Art Center in Atlanta, Georgia, where she rediscovered ceramic. She took classes and attended workshops, some with Michael Klapthor, to improve her figurative sculpture techniques.
Since then, Luce has tried different hand building and wheel techniques but has always wondered how to combine printmaking and clay.
Luce went to the Arrowmont School of Art in Gatlinburg and took a print screening class in 2014. In order to improve her technique creating functional pottery, she returned later to take a hand building class with Joseph Pintz. This was followed with a class by Jason Bige Burnett who broadened her horizons in her artwork with printed ceramic surfaces.
Luce is now combining all she learned by creating her own screen printing designs and transferring them onto clay. She is also adding drawings, carvings and more colors to her pottery. Sometimes, with the help of her husband, she is merging her ceramic pieces with wood.
Furthermore, Luce is still using her fabric skills to create functional decorative pieces.

*UPDATE: Marie-Luce’s pottery is displayed and available for sale at the Gartrell Gallery in Blue Ridge*gallery
